Cloudwatching
Flash fiction by Seji
White as far as the eye could see. A great, vast expanse of cottony drift colouring a blurred vision. The school walls seemed to cave in as the winds sifted through the clouds, lifting us higher. Time loosened its grip as we borrowed a moment from the sky.
We floated up, up, up.
Like a boat adrift upon a silent sea.
Then, grey specks gathered, bruising the white.
A tap brushed my shoulder.
“Recess is over. Let’s head back.”
Then I fell, down, down, down.
Gravity remembered us before we remembered ourselves, and the sky gradually folded back into ordinariness.
